Hiking

These pictures are a few weeks old, but worth posting anyway. We went hiking with some friends, and found this spider (about the size of my palm), and this strange traditional cleaver massage. Weird.

The Taipei Temple

We took a day trip to Taipei with our branch members to do temple work. A coach bus was provided for the 6 hour round trip ride. We made a few stops to see a bit more of the capital city which was great. When we finally pulled up to the temple, I had to ask exactly where it was. We were in the middle of a typical Taiwanese block, and there, just through the enormous gas station, I could see the Angel Moroni atop the temple!

Larger than life

The school at which I currently teach is brand new this semester. The owners are savvy business people, interested in various marking tactics. They informed me that they wanted to highlight the fact that students will receive instruction from an American: a competitive edge in Taiwan. They snapped my photo, blew it up, and placed it outside their front doors. I believe the Chinese characters indicate that "The teacher is a foreigner with an American accent." In my contract, I wish there was a clause that said, "The awesome poster will be the property of Teacher Jana following her time at Lighton." Pretty funny, huh?
